How Can I Help?

The Muskoka Heritage Trust is a volunteer-driven, non-profit, registered charity (Registration # 1029669) dedicated to offering permanent protection for exceptional landscapes. By acquiring ecologically valuable land in Muskoka as nature reserves, we act as stewards for the benefit of the plant and animal communities.

We did not inherit the land from our ancestors … we have borrowed it from our children.

The preservation of Muskoka's natural land is a living memorial. By making a gift to The Muskoka Heritage Trust, you will celebrate the life, or a special event in the life of a friend or loved one.

In Memoriam/ Honour of a Special Person

Some of the ways we conserve lands is through our donation and bequest programs. A bequest is a gift made in a will. A donation is a gift made while the donor is alive.

All gifts made in honour or in memory of someone special will go towards protecting the Trust's goals of preserving Muskoka's natural treasures.

When you make a gift in honour of a wedding, a birthday or another special event, we will send a card to your gift recipient to notify them of your gift.

When you make an in memoriam donation, we will send a card to the next of kin to notify them of your gift.

Tax receipts are issued for all donations.

Donation or Bequests of Land

If you own land in Muskoka that you would like to see protected in perpetuity, consider donating all, or a portion of it to the Trust.

Your gift can be a tribute to the principles and values that you have lived.

Land ownership carries with it responsibilities - payment of taxes, occupier's liability, and maintenance obligations. If a donated piece of land does not fit with our stated criteria for land acquisition, and if the landowner is willing, a property may be gifted or bequeathed to the Trust for the purpose of disposition in order to provide capital for the Trust. Capital raised will help the Trust to maintain existing nature reserves and/or acquire new ecologically valuable Muskoka property. If you or someone you love is considering donating land to the Trust, please contact us first. Together, we can ensure that both your land and your wishes are respected.
