The Muskoka Heritage Trust is a land trust.  We protect ecologically significant land in Muskoka and surrounding areas either through acquiring a property or holding a conservation easement on a property which restricts development. 

Experts who volunteer with the Muskoka Heritage Trust will assess property that is being offered for donation, to determine its ecological significance.  If the property meets the Trust’s criteria, staff and volunteers with the Trust will assist the donor in completing necessary applications for programs such as the Ecological Gifts Program, which provides tax benefits to the donor.

Once land is donated to the Muskoka Heritage Trust or a conservation easement is entered into regarding a property, the Trust will monitor the property to ensure that it is protected.  For property owned by the Trust, the oversight of the property is assisted by a management committee of volunteers.
