Upjohn Nature Reserve
In August 2011, Guy and Sandra Upjohn donated a 114-acre parcel of land located west of the Town of Bracebridge to the Muskoka Heritage Trust making the Upjohn Nature Reserve the Trust’s most recent acquisition.
For years, three generations of Upjohn’s have shared their passion for the natural world with their son, Ian, and daughter, Rebecca and their grandsons, Thomas, Harris and Emmett. Together, the family has worked together to manage and act as good stewards of their land.
The property is mainly forested with mature deciduous and coniferous tree species typical of the Muskoka region. The Upjohn family have actively managed the forest under the Ministry of Natural Resources Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP).
The property also contains a series of small, connected wetlands including open water marsh, vegetated marsh, shrub swamp and treed swamp. These wetlands support a variety of amphibian species as well as wetland dependent plant and bird species.
Thanks to the Upjohn family for entrusting us with the ongoing care of the land they love.
