Become a Master Steward

Master Stewards are trained to visit conservation-minded landowners and provide them with resources that will help them protect the natural values of their property. Popular landowner inquiries to the program include forest management, native species gardening, wetland care, habitat protection, and well and septic awareness.

Training

Master Stewards are trained to educate private landowners on:

  • Forest Management
  • Habitat
  • Wetlands
  • Shoreline and native plants
  • Trail Building
  • Water Quality
  • Dark Skies
  • Water wells & septic systems

Master Stewards come to the program with a variety of backgrounds. Some have a professional expertise in natural resource issues; others have in-depth knowledge about education. Above all, each Master Steward has a passion for Muskoka and the natural environment that makes this region so special. Each year, the Master Stewards attend a training workshop to prepare for the upcoming field season.
